Sunday's Man

Sunday's Man was a real pleasure to make, since doing Robert Dancik's cold connections class, I told you about in my last entry Smile.
My work has taken on a more secure feeling, literally LOL. Things are now not held together with a wing and a prayer but now with rivets, and more planning when I go to put my pieces together.
I have bought the best thing (well since my Japanese screw punch anyway) my Dremel stand, to die for.
This piece was made with an old hair clip, heishi just below the number 18 and my new optical Lenses which are to die for.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend

Smile !!!

Smile!! This is my new necklace I have just completed,as you can see by my title its from an old camera.

I have been busy with Life and a bad back ( oh the joys of life) LOL.

I had the opportunity recently to do a two day class with Robert Danick in Melbourne.I learnt Faux Bone and Forming meaningful attachments this class was all about cold connections and to say it has change my way of creating is an understatement.Robert made me think more about the creative process and putting things together to form great attachments. He is an amazing teacher giving and sharing freely of his ideas.I learnt rivetting which robert I have used on this piece.I will share my faux bone piece in the next entery.

Take care

All wrapped up!!

This Little number was inspired by a trip to Melbourne on the weekend,I took my kids to a Manga festival ,manga you ask, a style of japanese drawing and cartoons. We lined up for 2 hours but it was worth it to the kids. I had to sign them in, then I escaped to the city for a bit of retail therapy!!!.

I saw something that inspired this piece in a bead shop wire wrapped around in a ball shape.

I couldnt wait to get home and yes this is the result!!! rusty of course.

Hope you enjoy!!

Brace yourself

Yesterday was a great day not much really happened but while looking for some supplies in Nicole's room (sorry Nicole) I had all sorts of inspirations sometime we all lose our mojo and yes it has hit me as well, I think I try to force it to come but it wont raise its ugly head LOL.
I found by looking through my rusty bits N Pieces and my LOST treasures my mind started to work over time with all sorts of idea's it was good therapy.
This piece was made with as the title suggests a set of old braces (suspenders) they were a great find and have those amazing metal findings on them I also used the suspenders elastic it was too good to cut off .I then added a tin photo I have to attach chain but as normal I had to show you.
So if the mojo is low, look through your supplies it really worked for me. Think outside the square when you look at objects

Lost ART

Well it has been a busy week, I just want to thank everyone who commented on my glass house book. I was overwhelmed with your wonderful comments so THANK YOU guys.

This necklace was a challenge for me I wanted to do cold connections on it and after alot of work holding my tongue the right way here it is.

It is an old optical lense. I chopped the top off with my trusted dremel, then sanded it to remove the bright red paint. Then using Tim Holtz alcohol inks, I using a metal punch to add the words "Lost Art". I followed Richard Salley's free workshop link to make a cold connection necklaces and here it is.

People in glass house

People in glass houses well you know the rest LOL.

This weekend I decided to finally do myself a glass house book (yes I know; obessed with houses LOL).

I bought a kit years ago from some great people in Bakersfield California; Tom and Romona Ashman, they taught a square version of this book at Art N Soul years ago. Since I couldn't go (and I just had to do it) I made the other square one for a dear friend and still hadn't done one for myself.

And so; the House glass shaped book. It is made from copper plumbers tape and I found it very hard on the hand to cut and bend to make the spine, but here it is. I hope you like it!

Fly away Home

I'm loving doing my jewelry at the moment. This piece again with Mica and my beautiful rusted bird a friend sent me, well its rusted now LOL.

Ro asked me if the mica splits on the edges no I havent had that trouble but the spotted mica was thick and I sanded the edges with a soft file. You could try a fine bit of PVA glue on the edges to stop it fraying.

The tin photo is another of my treasures that one day I said I would use it and yes the day has come.
Yes the bird's nest is the craze with me at the moment!!!(thank you Deryn for your help your an inspiration)

Hope you enjoy it,

Birds of a feather

With birds all the rage at the moment, it gave me an excuse to make this beautiful birds nest charm, inspired by the very talented Deryn Mentock.

The house is made from a black speckled Mica which is too die for!!!!

It's funny how you have things hanging around and think "one day I will use that", hence the wood bit at the top of the necklace. I have had it for years. It had a key hanging from it but today when the creative bug hit the key came off. It's funny how you find things again.
I havent done the chain yet I'm still thinking what to do there hmm

7 Random things

Well I have been tagged by the lovely Debbi Baker (thanks Debbi!!!!) LOL

Here goes:

1. I have been married for 23 years to my husband Mark. I have two children; Nicole, 17, and Matthew, 14 . A dog maltese x, Cassie.Three guinea pigs; Audrey, Peggy and Fluer dela Muffin.

2. Matthew has a chronic lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes. It is a genetic disease and Matthew is the first to have CF in both our families. It brings our lives many challenges. He is my hero as he handles this challenge in life with more maturity than people double his age.

3. I wanted to be a chef when I was young. I have worked as a curtain maker, worked in a chamois factory making clothing from it. I know chamois, the stuff that you wash your car with, yes I made shirts, hats, you name it. Worked at a printers, breakfast tray runner, brake factory making brake pads, Mother and now a florist delivery driver, wow I'm tired! LOL

4.I have an American sister, well... we are like sisters if not closer. I met Linda via the internet, our love and passion for art brought us together. Linda makes totally awesome typewriter jewerly and optical Lenses jewerly as well. Now she is going more into fabric work.

I visited her a couple of years ago which was a wonderful experience. Linda is a inspiration to me she has fought and survived ovarian cancer, her health issues are a daily struggle but she never looks on the down side and is a very positive lady. Her health means she can never visit me, so we will look forward to when I can come and see her again, and just run up our phone bills instead

5. Nursed my dear Mum at home who was dieing with Lung cancer (she wasn't a smoker either). This was a life changing experience for me, life is far too short to sweat the small stuff.

6. Worked as a volunteer at Sovereign Hill a historical park in Ballarat for 11 years. You dress up in period cotume from the 1850's (NOT A GOOD LOOK). It's alot of fun and you meet some wonderful people.

7. LOVE LOVE TO JUNK shop! My art is my passion and my saviour at the same time. (I think everyone who knows me will say this isn't a random answer but I had to get it in somewhere.)

Sundays Child

I remember when I was little my mum had a book about what your birth day meant.

Mondays child is fair of face, Tuesdays child is full of grace, Wednesdays child is full of woe, Thursdays child has far to go, Fridays child is loving and giving,

Saturdays child works hard for his living,

And the child that is born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
When I did this piece I thought of Sundays child and mums book, this is dedicated to my dear mum Jeannie.
I will make it into a pin .It is a glass ornament with white gauze hold a beautiful Paper Whimsy image in place,I then mounted it on to a Metal piece and of course wings (you know me)

Saturday's Metal Day

Well today was Metal Day for me, and Im so Happy with what I have turned out !!!! well the day isnt over yet.

The first piece had a old fuse with a tiny piece of wire mesh in it as well as the word time.A old light bulb which was placed over a metal number 50 as you look through it.

The second one has a old watch winder for a pocket watches with an old typewriter key glass on top you can vaguely see the letter A still on it with a hidden surpries underneath a man just peeking through.

The last one is an old key with a man peeking through Mica. The wire around the key was as I found it at a Trash and Treasure twisted already and copper to boot, Mark thinks it was old fuse wire for a car.

The metal they all sit on were a special gift from a special friend thanks you know who you are!!

Little meg is another of those wonderful Paper Whimsy images they are very haunting and beautiful.
This is done on canvas with golden crackle paste. It is kept very simple as the image needs no help. The crystal piece I picked up at a junk store so I pasted the words behind it onto the glass and used a rub on the top saying "the story so far".
The halve piece is from Papier Valise another wonderful store in Canada

Beer Butt !!!

I thought I would share with you all a picture of My Dear sis Linda (well we are not blood related) but we are sisters in every sense of the word.
This photo was taken almost 3 years ago now in Bend Oregon in the good ole USA, Jim, me, Linda and of course dear Missy girl .
Linda and I meet along time ago through the wonderful world of the internet, when I came across her site and saw her beautiful optical necklaces,I asked her some questions about how to do them and she was only all too willing to share her knowledge with a stranger across the other side of the world. That seems like a long time ago now.
My husband Mark and I visited with Linda and dear Jim when we were in the states although we were warned by many people on the way to there place when we told them I was visiting a lady I met on the internet,be careful they might be nuts or Linda might not be a woman but a man possibley the Internet has a lot of loonies out there.
Boy we have all laughed about that since,we had alot of laughs then and to this day about it all.
Linda and I talk all the time, but yesterday when we were talking on the phone I had to check twice with what she said they were having for tea there(she has a strange accent LOL)
Jim was cooking" Beer in the butt chicken" LOL yes its true there is such a thing a can of beer inserted into a chickens butt then sewn in so the juices wont escape then rub the breast with assorted herbs and spices.
Cant wait to eat that next time I come over guys, and I thought us Aussies were strange.
Jen
